Though baseball Major League has integrated blacks, Troy sees no future in the integration. ![]() Thus he becomes a problem to everyone around him. This kills Troy’s belief in the system which remains a part of his life. Upon leaving prison, he is denied access to play in the Major League despite his skills because of his race and age. ![]() Just like every other black man who moved North from the South after the abolishment of slaver trade in the quest for freedom and greater opportunities, Troy ends up finding himself in prison.ĭuring this period, he develops interest in baseball. Though his father provided for all his eleven children, Troy moved out. As a result, Troy seeks a new path to life to fend for himself. His father had earlier used his leather reins to beat him away from the girl. Troy left home to cater for himself after he witnessed his father rape a girl he had a crush on. However, his bitter past experiences make him rebuff such changes. Troy finds himself in an American society which has begun integrating Blacks into the system. Troy is an African American man who suffered abusive childhood in the South from his father who was a sharecropper. They are: resistance to historic changes, theme of betrayal, the concept of protection, and living the American dream. ![]()
